Richard Overton was an English writer and reformist during the civil war. His works and writings were extremely famous especially when he started his critics against the Catholics and the Church of England and her bishops. This man became prominent when he became a convert of general baptism. Many of his books were published leading to a good number of people converting into the general baptism.
He had become very stubborn especially to the government. This is because of his several publications that were not in line with what the government wanted. This is the cause of him being behind bars twice in his lifetime. However, despite of being thrown in jail, he did not stop what he was doing and even did it in prison.
The poor are the most discriminated group by the government. This was the cry of Overton since he was fighting for a situation where each and every person was equal. This is what brought most of the friction between him and the government. He also taught contrary to what most churches said about the death of the soul and body. He said that they both die and resurrect on the judgment day.
Being a good author, he came up with several books and publications that would sell on top of the market. This was in addition to the spirit of fighting and letting the truth be known to the people. This is what he enjoyed most and even during the hard times in prison, he used to write some. He was known as a person who did exactly what he had planned to do and did not fear anybody even the government.
Even though much is not known about the earliest part of the life of Overton, he is said to have matriculated in the queen college, Cambridge. He has also worked as an actor and a playwright as part of his career. He has written several pamphlets. Being persecuted twice, in 1965 he fled and hide in Flanders.
Even though the man was a popular person in his country, he still interacted with people well and treated them as if they were on the same level. Since Overton was fighting for equality amongst people, he was the first one to practice it and did not care about the social class of a person. He was kind, generous and a good man that one would feel comfortable being around.
Being and activist and a reformer, he became popular among the people but was not in good terms with the authorities. This situation did not make him loose hope but in turn made him strong. He fought for people not thinking of any selfish interests in life. Being extremely intelligent, he knew how to put his points across. He was a great mathematician and poet.
It is worth noting that Richard Overton was a very popular man. However, he gained his popularity after releasing his pamphlets and books. This man was known to be a very good author and his books were loved by many. His personality is also worth admiration.
