Over the years there have been so many different playwrights. Some are famous, others never managed to get a play published or shown on stage. However, to Shakespeare theatre was where he was born to show his work.
When you think of theatre one of the names that probably comes to mind is Shakespeare books. This is because he has become very popular since he first started writing his plays. A lot of performing arts crews will choose to do one of his plays when they need a production to perform.
In all honesty, to Shakespeare theatre was a second home. He displayed great talent for writing revealing plays that are still enjoyed by large audiences.
Shakespeare wrote on topics such as love, politics, fairies and human nature. He seems to have been able to see true human nature and to bring this to the fore with his plays. However, he had the skill to do this without offending a great number of people as they watched his productions and saw some of themselves in his characters.
A great many of Shakespeare’s plays have a lesson in them that each of us can learn something from. Not everyone would like to learn those lessons, indeed few people actually do. Not every person has the courage to confront what is undesirable in themselves and change it for the better.
The concept of Shakespeare theatre and acting being seen as three separate entities is one that just does not compute. This is probably because he has designed some of the most complex characters seen on stage.
His characters are complex and can be a challenge for a lot of even the most accomplished actors. It is no wonder that most English classes only read the Shakespeare books and do not attempt to re-enact the scenes.
When you read Shakespeare theatre should be on your mind so that you can really understand what he was trying to do and so that you can put your imagination to work. Some of his work does take time to appreciate, so give it a chance and persevere, even if you do not enjoy it at first or feel lost in the old fashioned language.
Jon Hendricks frequently writes about Shakespeare theatre.
